All new houses or extensions built in Victoria must have a minimum six star Energy Rating Assessment completed prior to applying for a building permit. The rating system produces star ratings for heating and cooling performance. The more stars a window has achieved, the more energy efficient the product is.
Our sales consultants can assist with reaching an eight star energy rating. Heating accounts for 50% of the total energy use in an average Victorian home. Energy efficient windows not only make your home more comfortable, they can yield long-term financial rewards. Double glazing will dramatically reduce the cost of heating and cooling. Reduced energy costs more than make up for the initial cost of double glazed windows over their lifetime.
The below section is sourced straight from the WERS website:
‘The Window Energy Rating Scheme enables windows to be rated and labelled for their annual energy impact on a whole house, in any climate of Australia.
To participate in WERS, window makers must obtain energy ratings for their products from a rating organisation that is accredited by the AFRC (Australian Fenestration Rating Council).
WERS is independent of any one manufacturer and acts as a fair, rigorous and credible system for testing performance claims. WERS-rated windows must meet all relevant Australian standards. The scheme forms part of the quality assurance that smart manufacturers offer their customers. It is all about certified performance. The Window Energy Rating Scheme is managed by the Australian Window Association (AWA).’
