What is Window Caulking?

When to Renew Your Window Caulking

Window caulking can last up to five years and more when properly maintained, but it has to be reapplied regularly. Caulking is useless if it doesn’t create a seal between the window and the exterior, so make sure to check it every year. When replacing caulking, ensure all of the old caulk is removed beforehand.

If you notice a draft coming from outside when the windows are closed or visible damage to the existing caulk, it’s time to replace it. Look for cracking, dryness, and peeling of the caulk, or if it looks dry and shrunk. Significant in your electricity bill or the presence of insects inside the house can also indicate a need to renew your window caulking.
